Development of a business case to prove the benefits of mass participation in football.

UEFA and national associations have recently been under pressure to prove the value of football to society. As a result, they needed to create a model by which national associations and governments can have tangible evidence that investing in mass participation has significant impact in terms of economic, social and health benefits and elite football performance.

We developed a robust and academically approved football participation model for national associations to articulate the benefits of football.

We also generated new insight for national associations into the current value of grassroots football, its expected growth and the further impact achievable through additional investment.

Our approach

We collected and analysed big data across 150+ metrics and across all 55 national associations. Furthermore, we developed a high-level framework and identified drivers and outcomes of football participation.

We engaged and tested the model with academic and advisory panels.
