British Cycling

Development of a new strategy and operating model to transform British Cycling into a high-performing organisation.

Following reputational damages, including an independent investigation into the sport, British Cycling faced a number of challenges and needed to embark on a transformational journey. This transformation was aimed at developing greater clarity on the purpose, strategic priorities as well as a new operating model to transform British Cycling into a high-performing national governing body.

We supported British Cycling in developing a new strategy and associated workplans with outlined activities, milestones, targets and KPIs.

We also designed a recommended operating model to deliver the new strategy.

Portas did a fantastic job in helping kick start the work on revising our strategy. We now have a clear purpose, pillars and foundations rooted in real consultation with staff, volunteers and stakeholders
Julie Harrington - CEO British Cycling

Our approach

We conducted working sessions with the senior management team to develop the new strategy and led workshops to test the strategy and operating model options.

We also held 'open sessions' to share progress with the wider organisation, involving >70% of BC staff throughout the process.
